At The Bridal Bar, we thrive on crafting weddings that embody the dreams and visions of our clients. Recently, we had the privilege of working on an editorial photo shoot at the Vancouver Club that pushed the boundaries of wedding photography and design, combining 1920s vintage glamour with contemporary elegance. We are so pleased to announce that this editorial was published with Rocky Mountain Bride.
A Vision in Flash Photography
The shoot was conceived by an incredibly talented photographer eager to showcase her flash photography skills, often overlooked in favour of the more popular soft, airy light. This shoot was a testament to how essential the right lighting can be, especially when you’re aiming to create something truly extraordinary.
Choosing the Perfect Wedding Venue: The Vancouver Club
When we first saw the photographer's inspiration photos—moody black-and-white images with a distinct Elegant, Old Charm, and Gatsby-esque vibe—we knew we needed a venue that would complement this aesthetic perfectly. Enter the Vancouver Club, an iconic location that exudes old-world charm with a touch of modern sophistication. With its grand chandelier and timeless architecture, the Vancouver Club was the ideal setting to capture the essence of the 1920s socialite, the embodiment of exclusivity and elegance. For brides-to-be, this is a valuable tip: choosing a wedding venue that aligns with your wedding's overall energy and vibe is crucial to achieving a cohesive look.
Unique Details: Vintage Props and Timeless Accessories
One of the standout elements we incorporated into the shoot was a vintage rotary phone, which we couldn't resist using as a chic prop. This wasn't just any rotary phone, though—it was an audio guest book, a unique piece that couples can rent for their weddings. The idea of the bride making post-ceremony calls added a nostalgic touch that perfectly aligned with the shoot’s theme.
Another must-have for the shoot was a cigar. This classic accessory added a sense of sophistication and harkened back to an era when indoor smoking was a symbol of status and wealth. Paired with pearls—an element that screams old money—the bride’s look was the epitome of vintage luxury. Pearls are making a major comeback, and we didn’t hold back: the bride was adorned with pearl gloves, a pearl veil, and even a pearl-accented clutch, a modern twist on the traditional bouquet. This silk clutch with a pearl handle was hand-crafted by our florist, who also impressed us with hand-painted black and white florals, adding a touch of drama to the scene.
Floral Innovations and Modern Touches
Speaking of flowers, we wanted to stray from the conventional boutonnière and bouquet arrangements. Instead, we opted for a lapel boutonnière for the groom, a contemporary take on the classic accessory that turned out to be a real showstopper. Interestingly, the floral elements used in the shoot were reminiscent of those you would find at a 1920s wedding, adding authenticity to our vintage theme.
The Final Look: A Blend of Vintage and Contemporary
To round out the look, we included a hairpiece from our shop—a delicate feather that added a touch of vintage flair without overwhelming the minimalist hairstyle. Feathers are a nod to the fascinator trend of the 1920s but are done in a way that feels fresh and modern.
The final result? A luxurious blend of 1920s vintage glamour and modern elegance that was captured beautifully by our photographer. A true celebration of style across the ages.
